Pushing Titles Of New Blog Posts to Twitter and LinkedIn Using the TweetPost WordPress Plug-in
I’m very happy that I just found a use for Twitter; I am now pushing the titles of my new blog posts into my Linkedin status using the TweetPost WordPress Plug-in.
However, I must admit that I never figured out why an average joker like me would want to tweet the minor details of day-to-day life. I’d worry about boring my followers to death.
Keeping your network up-to-date on your blogging activity is something different though. This is a great way to keep your your friends and associates either reminded of your long-standing areas of expertise, or aware of new skills that you are developing. By doing so, your name is much more likely to come to mind when someone you know finds they have some need in those skill areas. Funneling titles of your blog posts to your Linkedin status is one way to do this.
Integrate Linkedin and Twitter !
This blog entry explains the mechanics of integrating Twitter tweets to the status portion of your Linkedin profile. The remainder of the article you are now reading will explain how the title of each new post to your WordPress blog can be pushed — via Twitter — into Linkedin.
Install and Configure the TweetPost WordPress Plug-in !
Once you have integrated Linkedin and Twitter its time to ensure that the title of each blog post you make becomes a tweet. You do this via the TweetPost WordPress Plug-in.
I installed TweetPost by bringing up my WordPress adminstrative dashboard, and then clicking on ‘Add New’ in the Plugins section of the left hand navigation panel. Once the ‘Install Plugins’ dialog came up, I typed in ‘TweetPost’, then hit ‘Search Plugins’ and got a one line response, with an ‘Install’ link in the right-most column.
Clicking on ‘Install’ quickly ran the install process, after which point I moved on to configuring the plug-in by looking in the Settings section of the left hand navigation panel of the admin dashboard.
To configure TweetPost you need to first set up a Twitter account if you don’t already have one. Type in your Twitter user name and password in the top part of the configuration panel.
Next you need to add in the details of your bit.ly account. Bit.ly is a service that rewrites long URLs to short ones, keeping your Blog post tweets under Twitters 140 character limit. You need to add in your bit.ly user name, and your API code (which allows 3rd party
applications — such as the TweetPost plug-in running in WordPress — to shorten links on your behalf.) To get your API code, go to this page after you’ve established your account and search for any hyperlinked occurences of the string ‘API code’, click, and you’re there.
Have Fun !

So, there’s your recipe for tweeting your blog activity and funneling it into updates on your LinkedIn status. I’d recommend stopping there. Tweeting every other aspect of life … Well…
It just seems like it can backfire on you.
